Nasal sprays have become one of the most requested formats in the Biolabs Peptides range. Instead of a lyophilised powder that has to be reconstituted, a research nasal spray arrives as a ready-made aqueous solution in a spray-pump bottle. If you are looking at peptide nasal sprays in South Africa for your lab, this guide explains what the format is, how it compares with vials and pens, how to store and handle it, and what documentation to check before you order.
For a broader overview of suppliers, COAs and every format we carry, read our buyer's guide to research peptides in South Africa. If you are weighing up solution formats, our guide to peptide pens vs vials covers the pen side in detail.
What is a research peptide nasal spray?
A research nasal spray is a peptide dissolved in an aqueous solution and supplied in a bottle fitted with a metered spray pump. The pump delivers a consistent volume each time it is actuated, which makes it a convenient container for laboratory work where repeatable small volumes matter. The label states the compound, the total content and, where it applies, the volume of solution, together with a batch number that links the bottle to its Certificate of Analysis.
Like a pre-filled pen, a spray is a solution format. That means it skips the reconstitution step, but it also means the peptide is in water from the day it is made. Peptides in solution are more prone to degradation through hydrolysis, oxidation and aggregation than a dry powder, so the format needs cold, dark storage and a sensible working window.
The Biolabs nasal spray range
Our nasal sprays collection currently includes six compounds. Each product page lists the full specification, including molecular formula, molecular weight, CAS number and sequence. A few examples:
- Semax 10 mg nasal spray (10 mg in 8 ml). Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the ACTH(4–10) fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension, studied in laboratory neuropeptide research.
- Selank 10 mg nasal spray (10 mg in 8 ml). Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the endogenous peptide tuftsin, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence, and is also used in neuropeptide research.
- GHK-Cu 50 mg nasal spray. GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, used in laboratory research on copper-binding peptides and extracellular-matrix biology.
The range also includes DSIP, PT-141 and MT-2 in spray format, used in neuropeptide and melanocortin-receptor research respectively. All six are supplied for laboratory research use only.
Nasal sprays vs vials vs pens
The same compound can often be bought in more than one format. Each suits a different kind of workflow.
Preparation
Sprays and pens are ready to work with. A lyophilised vial must first be reconstituted with a suitable solvent, such as bacteriostatic water, sterile water or a dilute acetic acid solution, depending on the compound. If bench time is limited, or you want to avoid solvent calculations, a solution format saves a step.
Stability and storage life
A sealed lyophilised vial is the most stable format. It can be held frozen until a project starts. A spray, like a pen or a reconstituted vial, should be kept refrigerated and used within a shorter window. If you plan to hold stock for weeks or months before using it, the lyophilised vial of the same compound is usually the better choice.
Concentration
A spray comes at a fixed concentration set when the solution is made, which gives batch-to-batch consistency. A vial lets you choose your own final concentration. Which matters more depends on your protocol.
Handling
A closed spray-pump bottle limits how often the solution is exposed to air and handling, compared with drawing repeatedly from an opened vial. Keeping the cap on and the nozzle clean between uses helps keep the contents in good condition.
Storage and handling checklist for nasal sprays
- Refrigerate at 2–8 °C once opened, and as soon as possible after delivery. Do not freeze.
- Protect the bottle from light by keeping it in its box or a closed container.
- Keep the cap on when the bottle is not in use, and avoid touching the nozzle tip.
- A new spray pump usually needs a few actuations to prime before it delivers a full volume, so follow any priming directions on the label.
- Write the date of opening on the label and record the batch number in your lab notes.
- Store away from food and drink, and out of reach of anyone not involved in the research.
Delivery within South Africa
Because sprays are solutions, transit time matters more than it does for powders. Order close to when the material will be used, make sure someone can receive the parcel, and move it to the fridge on arrival. If you are in an outlying area where deliveries are slower, consider the lyophilised vial version of the compound together with solvents and accessories from our reconstitution supplies and hardware collection.
Check the COA before you order
Format does not change the paperwork you should expect. A good Certificate of Analysis reports HPLC purity, confirms identity (usually by mass spectrometry) and carries a batch number that matches the label on your bottle. Biolabs publishes batch certificates on our COA page, so you can check a batch before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
Are peptide nasal sprays for personal use?
No. Biolabs nasal sprays are research materials supplied for laboratory use only. They are not medicines, supplements or cosmetics and must not be used on people or animals.
Do nasal sprays need to be refrigerated?
Yes. Keep them at 2–8 °C after opening, protected from light, and do not freeze them.
Is a spray more stable than a vial?
No. A sealed lyophilised vial is the more stable format for long-term storage. Sprays are best for work that will start soon after delivery.
Is the compound in a spray the same as in a vial?
Yes, the compound is the same. Only the format differs: a spray is a ready-made solution, while a vial is a dry powder you reconstitute yourself.
Where can I find the COA for my spray?
Batch certificates are listed on our COA page. Match the batch number on your bottle to the certificate.
